‘Songlines in the Forest’
My feelings for nature are complicated. I am appreciative and respectful of its beauty; its brutality and its subtlety. I also mourn for the destruction continuing to be done to our natural environment; to the indigenous people and their cultural attachment to the land where they have lived for thousands of years. Yet I am optimistic.
Here I am exploring and depicting some of that complication. The influence of the flooded landscape at Kakadu in northern Australia has come out in the colour regions in this work.
